Summer Hair, Don’t Care? Think Again.

We love summer. The long days, spontaneous dips in the lake, and that golden hour glow? Pure magic. But while you’re out soaking up the season, your hair is dealing with a different kind of heat.

Between the sun, salt, chlorine, and humidity, summer can quietly sabotage your hair’s health. Color fades faster. Ends split quicker. And strands that were once soft and manageable start to feel dry, brittle, and a little “blah.”

But here’s the good news: you don’t have to choose between carefree summer fun and healthy, happy hair. A few mindful changes can keep your hair looking (and feeling) its best through the warmest months.

Here are my go-to summer hair care tips for staying radiant—without losing your length or your vibe:

Hydration is everything.

Think of moisture like sunscreen for your hair. A weekly deep-conditioning mask, a lightweight leave-in, or even a spritz of hydrating mist during the day can make a huge difference. Especially if you’re swimming or spending time in the sun, replenishing moisture is non-negotiable.

Gloss it up.

A clear gloss is one of the most underrated ways to refresh your color and add serious shine. It’s like a topcoat for your hair—locking in moisture, smoothing the cuticle, and giving sun-faded strands a second wind.

Trimming ≠ chopping.

You don’t need a dramatic cut to keep your hair healthy. Micro-trims help remove split ends before they travel up the strand and cause more damage. This way, you maintain your length and your hair’s integrity.

Protect what you’ve got.

Just like your skin, your hair needs UV protection. Look for products that contain UV filters, wear a hat when possible, and rinse hair after swimming in saltwater or chlorine to minimize long-term damage.

Clarify, hydrate, and embrace the undone.

Whether you’re swimming in a pool, a lake, or the ocean—we’re all for it. But make sure you’re getting the chlorine or lake muck out of your hair with a good clarifying shampoo like Davines Solu. Follow it up with a hydration boost using Momo Conditioner or one of our favorite hair masks. For UV protection and effortless texture, we’re loving In Common Magic Myst or the Oi Hair Soufflé for a little air-dried softness.

Skip the blow dryer, pop in a few waves if you want, or just embrace the windblown look—summer hair is all about feeling free and lived-in. Grab a claw clip next time you’re at the studio, let the pieces fall where they may, and let your hair breathe.

And don’t forget travel sizes—so even if you’re at an Airbnb or crashing with friends, you’re not leaving your hair to chance. Ask us about our in-salon leave-in treatments too—they’re a great reset when your hair’s been through it this summer.
